Introduction to Scientific Research (271042)
Time and room: Lecturer: Block course Schulting Contents: This course provides fundamental knowledge of scientific working: structuring a scientific paper, providing a literature review, finding appropriate data sources, and how to analyze data sets with suitable quantitative methods.
The introductory course to scientific working methods particulalry prepares students to independently write a seminar paper, term paper or thesis at the IBF or in the field of finance. It addresses the requirements for the design of scientific papers and literature reviews. In addition, the basics of LaTeX and analytical software (Python, R) are taught. The latter are particularly important as all theses and seminars at the IBF include an empirical analysis.
Comments: We strongly recommend that students who are writing a seminar paper, term paper or thesis at the IBF for the first time attend this course. The introduction to academic work at the IBF takes place as a face-to-face course over several sessions in the first weeks of the lecture period. It consists of lectures on the individual subject areas and practical exercises using the software presented. The course is organised via the Stud.IP event.
In addition, we provide an ILIAS module that contains an alternative introduction to R.
